About the Foster Parent Association of Wilkes

History & Mission

The Foster Parent Association of Wilkes was formed in 1986 as a support for foster parents in Wilkes County. Organized as a non-profit, our purpose and mission is to promote and preserve quality foster care. Instilling an encouraging and positive attitude concerning foster children in foster homes is our top priority.

Support for Foster, Kinship & Adoptive Families

The Foster Parent Association of Wilkes is a non-profit support group open to foster, kinship and adoptive families. Other benefits are currently available to Wilkes County foster families upon membership. We strive to achieve relative ways to lessen stress on foster families and strengthen them through resources, education and support. We also seek to collaborate with community resources, Social Service Agencies and like-minded organizations to help create strong families and support systems for the children we serve.

The association meets on the second Monday of every month at 6:00 p.m. unless otherwise stated on our home page, at the Kulynych Center, 507 Courthouse Drive, Wilkesboro, NC. It will be a 1 hour meeting involving unique foster care training on helpful subjects.

Training

We are able to provide foster parents with a free 1 hour training certificate to help meet the NC State training criteria. This unique training involves issues related to foster, kinship and adoptive care.
